Vestibular Rehabilitation Therapy
Vestibular rehabilitation therapy (VRT) is a specialized form of therapy intended to alleviate problems caused by vestibular disorders, primarily vertigo and dizziness, gaze instability, and/or imbalance and falls. These symptoms are often caused by inner ear problems but can also occur after concussion/mild traumatic brain injury or due to other neurological conditions. It is an exercise-based program primarily designed to reduce vertigo and dizziness, reduce gaze instability, and/or reduce imbalance and fall risk as well as address any secondary impairments that are a consequence of the vestibular disorder. Vestibular rehabilitation therapy can incorporate habituation exercises, gaze stabilization, and balance training exercises.
